Screen-Shot-2015-09-16-at-15.09.54It’s not that uncommon to find people who are 10, 20 or even 30 years into their career and feeling they are not doing work they love and still searching for it.

If you relate to this, then keeping reading, this article is for you.

The hard part of having a dream career is not writing your resume, develop communication skills or nailing that job interview. It is to discover what that dream career actually is.

For many years I’ve been helping clients finding their dream careers and I’ve seen radical career changes such as a lawyer turned into a portrait photographer or another client turning from a company employee to an entrepreneur starting their own business.

So what are exactly the secrets for you to find your dream career?

1. Know Yourself

Before you know what your dream career is, you need to know who you are. This might seem crystal clear obvious, but it is best said than done.

We live in a very noisy and busy world, and we’re so used to “doing”, just going from one task to another that we sometimes forget to “be”.

We need to stop and listen to ourselves, and know who we are, what are our strengths, our weaknesses, what makes us feel alive and what bores us to death.

You’ll find your dream career when you realise that that career is a perfect combination of delivering real value to others through your strenghts and passions, through who you really are at your core.

To what makes you happy and brings you joy.

So take time to spend with yourself, sit in silence and just listen. You might even discover that your dream career is several different things and not even just one!

2. Listen to Your Intuition

If you take time to listen to yourself you’ll be able to tap into your intuition. This is a powerful in-built skill we all have that puts us on the right path.

We all know that butterfly feeling in our stomach, an openness when we face something we really are passionate about. And we also know that negative feeling of closeness in our stomach when facing something that is not right for us.

Don’t ignore this. As Albert Einstein puts it, “intuition is the only valuable thing”. It will help guiding you in the right direction

3. Research

Are there jobs and industries you’re really passionate about and curious? Research it!

Take time to really dwell into a certain profession or sector. Research on industry forums, on social media, go to networking events and speak with people that are actually building their careers in that area.

This will help you understand if that career is right for you, or if you only like it as a part-time hobby and nothing else.

4. Believe in You

In order to find your dream career and be successful at it, you need to believe your deserve a dream career!

It is not that uncommon to find people that wish they had a dream career, but deep down not actually believing they can or deserve.

You need to believe that you deserve more than just a pay check at the end of the month, that you deserve a joyful job that makes you feel fulfilled and happy. That fits your soul purpose on this planet.

Having a dream career is not a privilege or a luxury just for some people, it is something we all deserve, we just need to believe we do.
